Civil Air Patrol CAP-120

 I was first licensed in 1963 as WN4HHW and then as a General Class as WA4HHW. Obtained my Advanced in 1977 and Extra in 1978. Held the calls AA4VZ and currently AB4H. I obtained my First Class Radio Telephone Operator License (now GROL) in 1977.

WE are sort of a "Ham" family. My Dad, W4JD (silent key) was first licensed in 1921. My son, KB3NFD was licensed in 2006. My son-in-law, KU4XP is also a Ham. I also have 2 nephews who have their Amateur Licenses, AI4QU and KI4OVS.

I am a lifetime member of the ARRL. I am an ARRL Volunteer Instructor and have a VE Certification through the ARRL & the W5YI VEC programs.

DX is my thing in ham radio. I am currently on the DXCC Honor Roll having worked and confirmed 329 out of 337 countries and hope one day to get them all. CW is my favorite mode and I like to use RTTY and BPSK in contests. You can visit the ARRL at:




 I am an active member of the Civil Air Patrol being a licensed pilot and am currently the Communications Officer for the Kingsport Composite Squadron and Assistant Communications Officer for Group 1 of the TN Wing. I am also the Asst. IT Officer for our Squadron. My Call Sign is TNCAP-120.

Our local Senior Officers Meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at 7:00pm-8:30pm. at the North Hanger, TRI-cities Airport. The Cadets meet every Monday night at 6:00pm. Check out our latest Squadron Newsletter at:
